Thank you. I appreciate it. Words of gratitude can’t be used enough in the workplace. Studies have shown that lack of appreciation in the workplace is ranked higher than compensation issues for reasons why employees leave. This seemingly simple action can go a long way to maintaining a strong team and work environment.
In the book, “First Break All the Rules: What The World’s Greatest Managers Do Differently,” the author, Marucs Buckingham, writes about the insights into his study of over 80,000 managers. One of his observations is 12 questions that when asked, the best managers have all answered positively about them. Included in the twelve questions are, “In the last seven days, have I received recognition or praise for doing good work?” and “Does my supervisor or someone at work care about me as a person?” Giving praise and appreciation does work and is effective, according to his studies.
We’ve heard from dentists lately who feel that what they do for their employees is not appreciated. Within the last week, we’ve heard from more than one office that the team seems to take their job and benefits for granted. Perhaps in these cases the dentist is very appreciative and says thanks regularly. But perhaps they do not. If this is your office, start by making it a priority to say, “Thanks!” regularly. See what happens.
I’d like to thank those of you who read this regularly for being trusted clients and resources for me and Veros Dental. We have a lot to be thankful for this year. We’ve been blessed with wonderful clients and strong friendships. We’ve been blessed with the wisdom to help others. And tomorrow, I’m hoping to be blessed with more turkey and mashed potatoes than I can eat! Happy Thanks giving!

Great article!! I read them all and always learn something. Thanks for reminding me how important gratitude is. It is hard to feel bad when counting your blessing and being thankful for them. And there are many, we just have to LOOK for them to realize how good we have it.
